Prayer Flags…Part Two

prayer flags 1Set number one.

I was so excited to learn the reason for prayer flags, as noted in a recent post. I belong to a group called Spirit Sisters. (We now have one man, so maybe we should change the name?) At any rate, we share our spiritual journeys and it is a wonderful group. I decided to QUICKLY make up a set of flags for everyone that very day, as we were meeting to celebrate spring. If you know me, you know I don’t like to do things half way, but I was led to make prayer flags with the intended idea in mind…that they would fade, disintegrate and blow the prayers into the wind. The picture shows how rudimentary they are and I picked fabric that I did not believe would stand up well to the elements. I left room for them to write some of their own words, thoughts, prayers on them too.

Well, they were very well-received and are going in gardens, windows, etc. Fun! At least they let me have my fun and passions.

I still needed my own and have another friend I wanted to make one for, so this morning I whipped up two more little sets…

Again, very rudimentary, with easily understood messages and room to add more. Same flimsy fabric and I am going outside right now to hang mine up! Unusual to make something that you actually WANT to fall apart!!! Tee hee…I know my prayers are being heard anyway, but this is fun and cheerful!

Prayer Flags

Sometimes I feel so dumb! I am sure this never happens to you! This morning I was catching up on Quilting Daily emails and there was an article about prayer flags.

If you have followed me long at all, you know I am fairly easily inspired and that means yet another new project. This one may be long-going…

I try to live a mindful, prayerful life. My favorite element is the wind. This is a natural for me! I always wondered by people left these flags outdoors to fray and virtually disintegrate…in the wind and weather. Now I know! They are supposed to be there, sending the prayers up on the wind…how cool is that?!?

This is an ancient art and has kept going and being modernized with pictures, quotes, blessing (in your native language) and more. Well, I am off to start the project…I will likely start simple so I can get some prayer flags waving!
