I have not forgotten the March challenge for the Mighty Lucky Quilting Club! This month just did not sing to me. I have had some larger scraps laying out since March 1…and playing with them. As I understand it from Rossie Hutchinson, this is about learning colors…contrasting, complementary, etc. Also about color values and hues. It is a good lesson and as with all quilting, it still surprises me how much impact there is with using photos. You can see so much that just does not show up when you simply look at something.
I have so much fabric on hand, I was not ready to go buy more, so I decided to play with this using scraps I have. This would help me with the process she is teaching. So, I am posting the final selection (so far) after culling out several pieces. I am still not sure that the “wrong” color, another thing we are supposed to select and the name of this challenge, is what I like. I picked the green…it may not be “wrong” enough for this lesson.
I am not sure these pieces will actually turn into anything this month. I have to just hang with them and see. Purple is not really my color, so I would have to figure out something that works…maybe into the Etsy shop. That little square you see in the foreground…I threw that in at the last minute as a different addition…it has the colors. What do you think?
If I do go any further with this March lesson, I will post an update. What are you working on?
This is my design wall today. Still playing with the Mighty Lucky Quilting Club February Challenge.
Because I am lucky enough to be able to play a lot, I decided to take the little scraps/trimmings that were left from the bigger pieces and see what I came up with by sewing them together.
I might like it the best. This is just fun and addicting!
I am still trying to decide what to do with these creations. I may cut the biggest one on the left up to smaller pieces. I don’t think it really follows the intended challenge. It was much bigger pieces to start with, if you saw my earlier post. I wish I had not cut it up actually!
So, I think I can get rid of these last little pieces now. What do you think?
Do you let pieces hang on your design wall so they can speak to you? I am waiting to hear from mine right now…pillows? stretch over canvas? mini-quilt? wall hanging? Use for one big quilt? Any ideas from you in the quilting blogosphere?
Thanks for reading…happy quilting!
PS…Sorry about the poor lighting on the first pic. It is a bit of a grey day here today.
Just downloaded the February installment of the Mighty Lucky Quilting Club! Looks interesting…updates to follow…after I select my modern fabrics.
It is just $5 a month for these inspirational, educational lessons with well-known quilters. Check it out…here.
Five squares are made…
Except for one little spot…can you find it?…I am happy with these results.
I plan to create a table runner from them and call it “Chaos”!
