Word for the Day – Witness

If you read the Parade Magazine on Sunday, wherever you live, you may have seen a little article this week, Sunday With…Tony Bennett. As he is turning 90 years old, the final question was What are your thoughts on turning 90? His reply…

“I’m happy to be alive. I think the greatest gift you could have is to witness your life on earth.”

To me that was profound. How many of us actually “witness” our lives? How many of us just move from moment to moment, event to event, thought to thought without really seeing, hearing, feeling, absorbing those things?

Dictionary.com defines Witness as…
a verb (used with object)
1. to see, hear, or know by personal presence and perception

Just a thought for today. Hope you are IN-joy!

Hello Again!

Hey there! It has been a while for me on this blog. I can’t say for sure, retirement life seems to have been in the way of writing over the summer, but I am going to try to return.

It is September and in the fall life starts to settle down a bit…maybe, maybe not!

Whatever you have been doing or plan to do, I wish you joy as the weather changes!

Such a Fine Line

A shout out to the always inspiring blog alpha//whiskey//foxtrot, as her post today really touched me. Not one to dwell, at least verbally, on the negatives or dark side in my head, the following came as a result of several rough days and the blog shared above. Thanks again, AWF!!!

Such a Fine Line

Wherever you are today, I hope you are on the positive side of the line!

It is Mother’s Day!

Happy Mother’s Day to all the moms out there!

It IS a special day and I find it interesting how the thoughts about it evolve over the years. I have shared a post before about my mom, who passed away in 1999…here.

Of course, I think of her today and wish she was here, but I am especially thinking of my children and their children, my wonderful “grands”! This includes my daughter and my daughters-in-law.

There really is nothing like having children. The next phase, having grand-children, is almost better. You know, spoil them and send them home and all those cliches.

The truth is, in spite of all the ups and downs of life, seeing how my children parent is, indeed, a blessing for me. Hopefully, they do so well because of the way they were parented, but also in spite of that!

I am blessed with 5 grands ages 20 to 5 (and some very great nieces and nephews too)! We are all spread over the country, which can be sad, but I woke up to a text sending MD love and a request for a FaceTime chat today, so all is well in the world.

My husband commented that some of the hoopla is lost in the rush these days. I had to disagree…I don’t know a mother who would not be so happy to spend some quality time with her offspring and was reminded of that by a post by my DIL on FB this morning…

Looks like they had a bit of all mom’s favorites!

So, again, to all the moms out there…love your kids and grands and remember how blessed you are today! And THANK YOU to the mom’s in my life!

Earth Day – April 22, 2016

Today is dubbed Earth Day. It is great to have a day where we stop to think about all the many things that this brings to mind. It means a lot to many people and is of less importance to others. My question…why can’t we….

Is it really that difficult? This year I have been spurred on to pick up trash in honor of one little girl’s wish to take care of the earth. It was a great feeling to know that I might be helping and more so, that a young girl, who could have wished for anything would have asked for that.

12801155_10154617395348135_6824070036214199633_n I also thought, at the time, why do people just throw things out their windows? If everyone threw something out of their car window every day, just think how much trash there would be. It is pretty simple to hold on to the stuff and dispose of it correctly!

Then there is a post I read recently that made me think similar thoughts, The World Isn’t Your Ashtray, which brought about similar thoughts for me. I know people don’t want to smell up their cars with cigarette butts, but here is a great idea…stop smoking and clean up your lungs too!

There is the part of Earth Day that refers to clean living, gardening techniques, GMOs, and more. We could go on and on…all good food for thought, but again, my question…why not think this way every day?

Go ahead, be motivated today, but let’s work on caring for our Earth one person at a time, one day at a time…every day!
